First Kids Academy

Pre-K in Houston, TX

Ages 4 to 5 years

Our Pre-K year is about walking into kindergarten ready: reading readiness, early writing, number sense, and the classroom habits that make the first month of school feel easy instead of overwhelming.

Four and five year olds are capable of far more than most people expect, as long as the learning stays hands-on. We teach letter sounds and blending, counting and simple addition, name writing and pencil grip, and we do it through games, projects, and conversation rather than worksheets.

Just as important is the invisible curriculum: raising a hand, lining up, listening to a teacher across a room, resolving a disagreement, and sitting with a task until it is done. Kindergarten teachers notice these skills immediately.

Many Houston families weigh private Pre-K against free public pre-K. The honest difference is usually coverage and continuity: our day runs 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM with meals included, in the same building as your younger children, with no second arrangement needed for the afternoon.

Pre-K questions

How is Pre-K different from your preschool program?

Pre-K is the final year before kindergarten and adds structured literacy and writing, more independent work, and a stronger focus on the classroom habits kindergarten requires.

Should I choose private Pre-K or free public pre-K?

It depends on eligibility and your work schedule. Public pre-K is free for families who qualify, while our program covers 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM with meals in one building. We are happy to talk it through honestly, even if the answer is public pre-K.
